A line can zigzag
A payline may run horizontally, diagonally or through a shaped sequence of rows. The game’s line map identifies the positions. The direction of evaluation and minimum number of matching symbols come from the rules, not from how the line looks.
Check whether all lines are active at the displayed stake. Some games use a fixed set; others let the player vary the selection. If the interface shows a stake per line, multiply it by the active lines and include any other charge to understand the total cost.
Ways count possible combinations
If a hypothetical game evaluates matches across five reels with four eligible symbol positions on each, the simple product is 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 = 1,024 possible position combinations. That arithmetic does not mean every combination wins, or that the probability of a prize is 1,024 times higher than in a line game.
The winning symbol, left-to-right requirement, minimum match length and Wild behaviour still determine which combinations pay. A published “ways” number describes a structure; it is not a probability or a promised return.
Clusters use adjacency rules
A cluster game may require matching symbols to touch horizontally or vertically. Some rules include other forms of adjacency; some require a minimum group size. When symbols disappear and new ones fall into place, a single round can include several evaluations.
Do not assume diagonally touching symbols qualify. Read the example diagram in the information panel. A visually connected group and a rule-defined connected group can differ.
Avoid comparing games by the largest headline number
“More ways” can be a useful description of a changing reel structure, but it does not establish a better RTP or a lower chance of losing money. Prize amounts and probabilities are part of the complete model.
For a useful comparison, record the evaluation system, total stake, minimum match, special-symbol exceptions and whether the grid changes during a feature. Those details explain the experience more clearly than a very large ways count alone.
| System | Read first | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Paylines | Line map and active lines | Only horizontal matches count |
| Ways | Reel direction and matching length | Every combination pays |
| Clusters | Adjacency and minimum cluster size | Diagonal connections qualify |
